Who Owns the Almanac? Data, Intelligence and the Next Five Years
In Back to the Future, the whole timeline goes wrong the moment someone else gets hold of the almanac. Over the last five years, a great many organisations handed over their almanac — copying their most valuable data into someone else's platform in exchange for a demo that worked.
Now that AI has moved from experiment to production, the bill for that decision is arriving: duplicated data nobody can govern, models trained on information the business no longer controls, and roughly eight in ten AI projects stalling not on models or GPUs but on data that was never ready.
This session looks back honestly at what the last five years taught us, and forward at the architectural shift already under way — bringing AI to the data instead of moving data to the AI, and turning storage into a layer that understands what it holds. Participants leave with a practical test for their own estate: can you find your data, govern it, and move it — without losing control of it?
