- One of the primary reasons for the existence of the AI Lab is education. You only get so far by reading about the stuff. Together, we can experiment, play, and test the new technology, says Christian Pallinder, AI Lab General.
Whether AI is considered a hype depends on perspective and context. At times, AI has been subject to exaggerated expectations and inflated promises, leading to perceptions of hype. However, AI also represents a transformative technology with significant potential to drive innovation and solve complex problems when applied in competent ways.
- Acquiring essential skills is vital for effectively leveraging AI and unlocking its value. You develop these skills by trying out the technology yourself, in a place where it's okay to ask questions and learn from errors.
Navigating the New Terrain
In a paradigm shift, it's important to question everything you know, return to basics, and approach it with a beginner's mindset. This new technology isn't just an enhanced version of something familiar; it's entirely novel, demanding new modes of thinking.
- If AI were a car, it wouldn't just be a faster or stronger version of the model we currently have. Instead, it's like an entirely new vehicle that pushes beyond all the usual limits we're accustomed to.
When dealing with AI, it all begins with understanding your data and how AI can work with it to maximize its value. Once you've grasped this concept, you can then determine which technology within the AI realm is most suitable. In the lab, you can delve deeper into exploring which type of AI best suits your needs, gain more knowledge about it, and proceed to the next stage of exploration.
- Once you have acquired a certain level of knowledge, the AI lab will be an enabler where you can gain experience, test ideas, and make mistakes and learn from them.
Achieving On-Prem Success
Ready-made on-premises solutions aren't as abundant as their cloud-based counterparts. However, there are alternatives that allow you to leverage new tools with your data in a secure and compliant manner. While implementing these solutions demands more effort than using readily available cloud services, if done effectively, the investments will be worthwhile.
- Most of us are at a rudimentary level when it comes to on-prem AI solutions. Since setting up the lab in August 2023, my team and I have been working our way up the knowledge ladder, and we are happy to share what we've learned and explore together.
