VP CTO Global ArrowSphere, Arrow
Hi Eric, you are Vice President, CTO Global ECS Cloud at Arrow, and spend your days making sure that we catch and surf the right tech waves into the future. But imagine that you could travel back in time and talk to your 2018-self. What IT related insights would you share?
I would talk about the rapid development of generative AI and the shift into modern cloud architecture. But even though it would have been interesting to get a preview, it would not have changed the focus of our team. When it comes to emerging technology you need to think like a surfer. You must be out there in the ocean, constantly alert, and when the best wave rolls in you start paddling with all you have. But it is impossible to catch a massive swell before it is there.
Now look in the other direction. What do you think will be the most profound change that will happen in the five years ahead of us?
In 2028, sustainability and carbon footprint reduction will be a top priority and guide all our business decisions. Today all modern companies and organizations are moving in the direction of digitalization, and therefore IT makes up an increasingly large share of the total energy consumption. In 2028 our IT investments will not only be made based on lowest cost or what technology we like working with. It will also be about achieving the lowest possible emissions.
What will you talk about during your session at the 5 years out event?
I will talk about the implications of the market shift toward everything as a service and efficiency via the well architected cloud. I will also share some exciting news from us at Arrow that will facilitate the sustainable transformation.
